Chubby Checker

Chubby Checker is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and the artist behind “The Twist,” the only song in history to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in two separate chart runs. His version of the song helped spark a major shift in popular music and dance in the early 1960s, introducing the idea of dancing apart to the beat. Born Ernest Evans and raised in South Philadelphia, Chubby became a household name with a string of dance hits that included “Let’s Twist Again,” “Pony Time,” and “Limbo Rock.” He also appeared in films and on television, becoming one of the most recognizable figures of the era.
